ElDevons Video Ideas

My idea of my remix video is to come up with a theme of showing how people in africa are suffering over diamonds. My video that I picked was Diamonds on my chain by Fabulous. The song that I picked was Diamonds are forever by Kanye West. My remix is coming along well so far. I started kind of late because I was absent but I have I feeling that everything is going to turn out great.

The lightbulb went off and …

My (Prisca’s) itty-bitty ideas are to take ….:

  • really popular hip hop and rap songs and remix the messages they send in the lyrics. What kind of ideas are they planting in young women, especially of color? What are they telling the rest of the world who lives outside the hip hop world? I want to expose in a new way what the songs are teaching about respect and health but also leave some kind of note about who is changing the stereotypes about the culture.
  • take “Jesus Walks” by Kanye West to the beat of why “sacrifice” and other Christian terms have made it acceptable, if not normal, to attack and villify other cultures. Why are some issues provoking and violent and horrific and others framed into normal events?

So far, that’s all folks….

Kind Keith’s First Idea

  • What are some songs you have thought about using and would you illustrate the song or critique the song? Coded Language or lemme ask y’all a question
  • We know that the form we will be using is music video, but what kind of style do you envision? (parody, humor, satire, irony, serious, illustration?) serious, satire, parody
  • With your first music video remix, what are some possible TARGETs for your CRITIQUE?  What lies would you like to expose or truths would you like to tell? government, corporate america, record companies, people
  • What possible ISSUES could your music video address? the misguided illusion of the american dream

Pick Your Poison

The first time I ever heard a song by NAS I was on my block watching two cops check a few kids on their bikes. The boys had their hands on the cop car and looked pretty scared. I thought to myself, “they couldn’t be much older than me.  Then a car that was blasting this song flew by the stop sign and the people inside told the cops “Chin*a su madre” and some other nice things. The song was “Poison” and it was pretty radical to me at that time.

The song talks about how people in the country are being blindfolded and “injected” with poison (sometimes literally). The “poison” is all around us and inside of us from birth because our mothers are toxic. But this poison is all around us: in our food, in medicine, in water, on T.V, and in our schools.

I want to put a real video and/or picture behind his words so that viewers can see that this process of injecting “poison” actually exists. So that means showing images of doctors injecting babies next to junkies shooting up. Showing books being binded on an assembley line and show images of “hate books”. Other examples of juxtapositions: McDonalds vs. rat poison, oil vs. toxic waste barrels, prisoners in jail vs. public school students walking through a security check, cosmetics vs. images of someone with skin cancer, drug industry vs. weapons manufacturing.

Hmmmmm…Ideas, ideas, ideas

Okay the song i have choosen to use is a song entilteld “At- risk youth” by Indigo ( a duo that I am half of) and the song is basiclly about th struggles that youth face and they fact that often we are crimanalized and showed as bein”at -risk” of so much negivitvity. the song says they call us ta- risk but we will rebel against the thoughts others have and show who we really are.

Visually. Images of youth, and other things we mention in the song such as Al Capone

Mood: Mellow, but with splashes of humor

“first Ideas”-silvia

Well I am Kinda thinking Of using this song by Immortal Technique called “dance with the devil”.

I am actually thinking of using the instrumental version of this song and I am deciding to illustrating it.The Style that I want to create in this remix would be serious/illustration the reason why I am doing this style is because the actual songs lyrics are actually saying about this boy who started drug dealing then wanted to make more money so he started wanting to be in a gang and the ending of this story/song is sad because the boy ends up raping his mom and actually killing himself so that’s why the song is called dance with the devil. But the issue that I want people to realize is the effects that gangs could create to a individual.

Aaisha’s first ideas

I have chosen a few songs to make a remix video with. But one that i’m leaning towards with, is a song that me and Ameenah had wrote a year ago. It talk’s about how the world sees us youth as trouble makers. One thought of creating it would be to illustrate the words of the song, sense the music is already a remix of a jay z song. because the song is serious, I think it is important to have real images of what the song is talking about. The people that I’m trying to target are adults because their generation sees us youth,  as ” bad “.  If i we’re to  critique this song it would be that youth aren’t always how the media portraits them to be.

My First Idea

Music: Less Talk More Rock by Freezepop.

Style: Dark Humor

Targets: U.S. Government

Issues: Mishandling of the Iraq War, treatment of the war by the government, brutality, the degradation of the Iraqi people.
